MY STORY, MY VOICE: OUR COVID-19 STORIES
WELCOME
To our project. 'My Story, My Voice: A COVID-19 Story' is about capturing, preserving, and sharing the first hand experiences of young people of colour and their families during COVID-19.
Where it all began
In 2021, Skills 4 All spoke with a focus group of young people of colour across Greater Manchester. The young people told Skills 4 All they wanted this project to affirm their self-worth, and celebrate their identity as young people of colour.
Our project ran for 18 months from 2022 to 2024 and focused on the deeper connection to, and appreciation of family tradition, culture, and heritage that took place between black and brown families during the global lockdowns.
Our Project Hopes and Aims
This project has been made possible with the funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players. We are thankful for their support.
With this project we have given young people of colour:
-
The tools, time, and platform to gather, express, and share their COVID-19 experiences the opportunity to develop skills in capturing oral histories, video storytelling, and digital scrapbooking.
-
The platform to have their voices heard, validated, and supported by those in the local community a sense of belonging, and a firm space to build on their identity.
